So, I am wondering how people in other groups recruit.

Do you actively seek out new members? Do you allow them to find you? Is yours a closed group, an open group? How do you include new members? Do you have a basic curriculum? Ranks?

Lets Hear it!

I know at least 4 Jedi groups that are using Meetup.com. I just started a Jedi Group on Meetup.com for Miami. Meetup is good aboout recruiting. MTFBWY! JK

Yep, meetup.com is definitely a great way to find members and I know the Maryland and Chicago Chapters have found a lot of people that way. (I got your message about the new meetup Jedi category btw, Kidohdin). Leo also said he found a lot of people for his Guardians group by posting an announcement on Craig's List. I've also found a lot of people by just talking about my group with others who I feel share common beliefs and interests. My goal isn't so much recruitment as it is simply letting people who are attracted to the path know we exist. I think there are a lot of people out there who seek this path but think they are alone.

The Maryland Jedi Chapter is definitely an open group, always accepting and welcoming new members to share in our learning and training. We don't have any ranks or set curriculum at this time, though. Rather, we all take turns sharing whatever knowledge and experience we have to bring to the group as a whole.

Hi Trevus,

It would definitely be wonderful to have more offline Canadian involvement. My best recommendation for you would be to start a Jedi Realist club at your high school. Find a teacher to help sponsor you and stress that the group will focus on the realist aspects of the Jedi path including things like eastern philosophy, volunteerism, meditation, self-defense, etc.

If you don't think a group would work at your school, then you can just try to find a group of friends who seem to share similar interests and start meeting on a regular basis to support each other in learning more about the Jedi path and actually living it in the real world.

If you're very seriously interested in starting up a Chapter, I can find a Chapter Mentor to help guide you through the process. You would need to have your parents submit a Parental Consent form (http://jediresourcecenter.org/vb/misc.php?do=form&fid=3), though.

Given my current job, I don't have enough stability to physically recruit. It doesn't help people in the military don't try to actively seek out other Jedi (though I have recently come across someone online who is out here, just can't get a hold of them yet-I suspect it's because he's a Marine, those poor guys don't get a whole lot in the way of privileges out here :/-too many people ruined it for them >.>).

Though, I'm going to try and keep people posted about JRC more ^^

I have not yet used meet-up - although I too received Jedi Kidohdin's note on it. After reading what you have posted here I may consider it.

I have an online group which kind of has a public and a private part to it. The private group is open to anyone who appears to be polite, sincere, and oriented toward the light. The only difference might be that the site is more directed at people who want to establish real world rather than just virtual communities and friendship.
